I received the error message: "There was an error contacting the server or the server's response could not be decoded. Please check your Internet connection. If this error persists please contact the publisher and present the text of this message."
Try opening Adobe Reader, then clicking on the Edit menu and choose Preferences. In preferences choose General from the categories on the left. Then uncheck the 'Enable Protected Mode at Startup' box. Click on OK and quit Adobe Reader. Now try viewing the PDFs again.
